Tennant apparently wants it. Smith apparently wants it.
Whoever is standing in the way? (Moffat.) Clearly needs to move.
He told the Radio Times: “They got on like a couple of old women. They just say in the corner and gossiped the entire time. By the end of it, Matt told me that he’d worked out this plan that they’d both continue in Doctor Who: do five individual episodes each and three together – would that be ok? It was a nice plan. I think if I’d said yes they’d have gone for it.”
Ok, now, I understand why this might not be the best of ideas right now. After all, Peter Capaldi is taking over the franchise, and it’s probably not in the best interests of the series to dilute that. I can appreciate this.
But Smith needs time away from the series anyway, and Tennant has his own career to tend to. So why not, in a series or two, maybe bring them back for a set of specials starring the 10th and 11th Doctors? Think about the Key To Time series, and the baddie that came from that The Black Guardian. Bring him back and have multiple Doctors fight him together. We know New Who fans will always come back for Tennant, and I suspect they’ll do the same for Smith.
Yes, I know, the Doctor’s not supposed to cross his own timestream, and whatnot. But Moffat’s thrown all that away when convenient before. So don’t tell me he can’t again.
