We couldn’t imagine going through a presidential election without him. Now we don’t have to.
HBO just announced they have signed a four-year deal with Jon Stewart to produce content which will…wait for it… be exclusive to the HBO Now platform.
I suppose that keeps him from directly competing with John Oliver. But he wouldn’t anyway. Because unlike John Oliver, who is long attention span, deep dive comedy. Jon Stewart is aiming for the short attention span crowd.
From the press release:
In his first project for HBO under the new deal, Stewart will view current events through his unique prism. Working with the pioneering cloud graphics company OTOY Inc., he is developing new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day. Additional projects will be announced as they are confirmed.
So basically, it will be like Jon Stewart, the twitter feed. On HBO Now.
“I’m so excited to be working with Richard [Plepler], Michael and the entire HBO family,” says Stewart. “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”
With a primary that looks like Bush won’t make it to, but Trump and Carson will, a little comedy now and then will be all we’ll need to help get us through. Thanks Jon.
