You want a Revolution? I want a Revelation. For those who might not be able to decide, Elie Saab is apparently in the middle of providing both.
It may not be obvious from the opening look, but Saab decided that for PreFall 2016, he would attempt something revolutionary for his brand–a collection that would not be nothing but solid jeweltones in varying layers of chiffon, lace and sequins. It’s a risk for his brand, which has become a red carpet staple due to the reliability of stars who want solid colors for televised red carpet events that shimmer and sparkly and tease without actually revealing too much.
Perhaps Saab is hedging that the nearly nude gown, which is one of his staples, is starting to feel a bit played? Perhaps he just wanted to put out a collection of something else to see how it would look and feel. Perhaps this is a prelude to a huge sea change for Fall 2016 in a few months. We won’t know until next year. But for now, let us see what happens when Saab stops being sparkly and starts getting real. Full collection below.
