Your Daily Kitty is Late Because We Were Staring at the Forecast

“[T]he meteorologist who literally wrote the textbook on Northeast snowstorms has already called it “textbook.”
Only religious texts can adequately describe the top-end snowfall scenarios that some weather models are insisting on.

  1. I know a little about snowstorms and blizzards, given how long I have lived and where I Iive.
Looking a what is coming Washington and the East Coast’s way, I can only say Welp!
2 feet of snow, more or less, let us not quibble about a few cms, is a huge amount of snow. 24 inches falling on an area that is not prepared or experienced in dealing with blizzards is very bad.
Everyone from individuals up to senior govts does not have the equipment or the experience to handle this. This is the kind of storm that paralyzes Buffalo or Montreal or Halifax.
Stock up and Stay Home and Stay Warm.
    Eat Soup and Pie.

    1. We have battened the hatches here and at my mom’s house as well. Her freezer is loaded with homemade soups in individual portions and various other treats provided by my sister and me. My fridge and freezer are loaded with the makings of more soups.

Speaking of my mom, she had a very good doctor’s appointment yesterday. He says she needs to gain weight but her bloodwork is good and he is very pleased. The tumor markers are going down and he thinks in another month she will be ready for another scan, and maybe, if the surgeon is also pleased, surgery. Meanwhile I am to continue feeding her “just like you have been, but more.”

  2. Sixteen Days ago, I ordered The Princess Bride, from The Folio Society. Today I received a box in the mail (regular Post)
    1. Let me say I have never received a package so securely packed as this one. With the exception of the packages from my brother that is. It was a sturdy cardboard box, somewhat like unto those used by Amazon or Chapters, but sturdier. It was folded precisely into the designed places and then secured with wrapping tape. Lots of wrapping tape, along every seam and edge. I used my cutter to get into the wrapping tape and then was able to open the box (it fit very very tightly together). Then an outer layer of bubble wrap, then an inner layer of finer bubble wrap, Then the book, in a lovely slipcover.
The endpapers are drawings of Florin and Guilder, showing everything including Fezzick’s cave and the hovel by the farm.
I am so looking forward to reading this book again in such a lovely edition.
It is such a beautiful book

  3. Just looked at the very latest forecast and thought of Robert Frost:

Some say the world will end in fire,
    Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
    Is also great
    And would suffice.

    1. No, actually Snowpocalpypse was the name voted on by Washington Post readers for the Blizzard of 2010. The Post ran a new poll yesterday to name this storm, hoping for Snowzilla, or, considering the date and the serious coastal flood warning along the Maryland/Delaware/Jersey Shore “Snow vs Wade.”
Sadly, and perhaps a terrible harbinger of things to come, the one that won the poll was the one no one took seriously as a candidate: “Make Winter Great Again.”
