The First Annual Crayola Crayon Hunger Games have arrived. And the victim is….dandelion.
Crayola popped the news early about their retiring crayon. Overnight the announcement dropped, ahead of National Crayon Day, that the retiring crayon from the 24 set of Crayola Crayons was in fact to be: Dandelion.
Yes, set off the digital fireworks, fire the cannons to mark its passing, and let’s all have Caesar Flickerman lead us all in a moment of silence while the tribute video rolls. The shade of yellow, pale in color, but neither to the green nor the orange side of the yellow spectrum, is no more.
Farewell Dandelion…. You were a color most of us never used anyway.
So what color is the one standing in for a replacement in the tradition Crayola Crayon 24 Color box? Let’s watch the Facebook announcement.
….and we discover that they will not actually announce the crayon today, because they want *US* to be the ones to name the new color. This new shade, part of the “blue family”, will in fact be part of an internet contest to name the new color. Because apparently Crayola did not learn from Monopoly’s decision to have voters choose the new tokens, or the ongoing issue in Major League Soccer, where the winning name in their contest to name the new team is Footy McFootface.
What the shade is we have yet to see, but for my money, if Bluey McBlueFace isn’t one of the leading contenders by the time the poll gets rolling for real, I will be highly disappointed in America.
