The Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer has arrived, after 90 minutes of build up at the Star Wars Celebration. Please check all feels before boarding.
The Star Wars: The Last Jedi panel was this morning in Orlando. Like the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel it was an effective and affecting production, with Josh Gad as host. Featured interviews included LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, director Rian Johnson (who brought a camera and took pictures of the adoring audience), Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, BB-8 as well as newcomer to the franchise Kelly Marie Tran.
They released a new poster…
and a trailer.
As Josh Gad screamed OF COURSE THERE’S A TRAILER.
For the record this was not quite the emotional hysteria of two years ago with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it didn’t have to be. (Also no Harrison Ford and no Carrie Fisher meant Mark Hamill had to carry the “legacy cast member” mantel alone.) The Force Awakens established that we were going to be in good hands. That Rogue One shot past the 1 billion mark worldwide, when Disney clearly had merely million dollar expectations (especially after all the issues in production) solidified that this franchise was no longer in need of anyone to apologise or explain for it, like it did in a post-prequels pre-sequels world.
But do we think this will be the biggest movie of the year? Sorry Justice League. Sorry Marvel. The force is going to be too strong with this one.
