Doctor Who Season 10: “Extremis” Preview

The first episode of our midseason three parter “The Monks Trilogy” begins tomorrow. Let’s check out a sneak peek of part one, “Extremis”.

This weekend, the Vault will finally open and Missy will arrive–and those things are not necessarily related. Even though logic (and piano playing) suggests they are, fans are assuming that this is far too simple and answer and some “big twist” will be revealed instead.

But first, we have to consider the fallout from last week’s blinding of the Doctor, especially since this week’s adventure is a walking advert for Reading Is FUNdamental, with the Doctor needing to dive into the pages of an ancient text to save the world…

Check out the synopsis:

In the Haereticum – the Vatican’s secret library of blasphemy – there is an ancient book known only as The Veritas. Throughout history, anyone who has ever read it has immediately taken their own life. Now a new translation is online, and the danger is spreading. The Vatican appeals to the Doctor. Will he read The Veritas? But can even the Doctor survive the ultimate truth?

By the way, the Vatican isn’t just wandering about looking for the Doctor. Apparently they’re going to mess with Bill’s first proper date this season.

No wonder she wants her TARDISing life and her personal life to have boundaries. Frankly, I’d freak out if the Pope happened to wander out of my date’s bedroom too.

Moffat’s intro suggests that this adventure literally begins the same day as our last one leaves off, by the way.

Also, according to Pearl Mackie, those Monks are the monster of the week, and they are brand new.

Today’s spoilery clip is the Doctor and Missy meeting for the first time since Season 9’s premiere. Note that the Doctor doesn’t seem surprised she’d out of the Vault–maybe she’s not in the Vault after all? Also watch the doctor’s eyes. Does he get his sight back? Or is that a false hope?

We as always have a plethora of pictures, which includes some spoilers–including a location you might not expect us to visit this year. Does this mean that Doctor Who will be making Trump jokes?

Doctor Who airs this Saturday at 7:25pm BST on BBC One and 9pm ET on BBC America.
